Random (usually-)contrasting colorsThe top version of this table shows how these colors appear to someone with normal color vision. Scroll down to see how they appear to someone with some degree of color-blindness. For a final test, print the entire page on a monochrome laser printer. If any of the tables are hard to read, supply an alternate stylesheet for print media. This page seems to be getting a lot of hits recently, courtesy of mezzoblue.com, digital-web.com, and iamcal.com, all places worth visiting. Feel free to leave comments about the generator and the idea behind it. Current rulesA base color is chosen, and the others are generated by randomly altering it in the HSV color space, using Cal Henderson's Graphics::ColorDeficiency Perl module. The rules in the following form are used to generate the different colors. I've written up an explanation of the syntax, and a standalone parser. |
